Our pack incudes a curated selection of whiskies that have been matured in casks that were once used to hold port. Doing this adds a special complexity when used to mature whisky.
The most important characters of a malt whisky develop during the ageing process. The type of oak and seasoning / former contents are front and centre. Sometimes various casks are used, at the same time, or sequentially.
Ex-port casks tend to be used to finish whisky maturation and contribute the rich tastes of plum, blackberry, sultanas, redcurrant, dried apple, oak, cranberry & dark chocolate. Of course there are many types of port. Oak can be European or French.
This pack contains 3 x 30mls of the below port cask whiskies.

TASTING NOTES
Corowa Distilling – Bosque Verde – Single Malt Port Cask Matured Whisky. 44% ABV
A family owned farm for over 100 years and pioneers of organic farming techniques. Bosque Verde means ‘Green Grove’. Matured in American Oak barrels that once contained Australian Port wine. The first nosing takes you back to that farmland with memories of country roads and rustic landscapes. You’ll find comforting and homely notes of cherries, chocolate and cinnamon. It’s as warm as that welcome home hug. 46% ABV
Timboon Railway Shed Distillery – Port Cask Matured Whisky Expression. 44% ABV
Golden straw, soft gold colour. A gentle and inviting nose, showing aromas of oak, caramel, butter scotch, dark chocolate, red berries and honey. The palate is soft with fruit notes and a whisp of vanilla. The port wood and new make working magic. Full length through the pallet. The extra alcohol on this bottling certainly enhances the character of this malt. A faint tingling of smoke closes out this malt. 44% ABV
Launceston Distillery – Single Malt 5yo Tawny Port Cask Matured Whisky. 46% ABV
Launceston first produced two 100 litre single cask batches, which are both privately owned. This is the third 100 litre cask ever filled at Launceston Distillery. Now the taste is with you. This 5 year old whisky is as rich as it sounds with a nose of dried fruit and toffee. The palate follows up with flavours of tawny port and dark chocolate with a pleasant lingering and long lasting finish. 46% ABV
