Taste of Tassie Pack
Serving suggestions and gin tasting notes

The pack includes a selection of four of the following gins:

The Abel Gin Co. – Essence Native Tasmania Gin.

A vibrant and fresh gin with refreshing citrus notes and a delicate floral background, as refreshing as a spring afternoon. Perfect for a summer’s day on the veranda with your favourite tonic or Nat’s favourite French 75.

Serving Suggestion

In cocktail shaker, combine gin, lemon juice, ice and simple syrup, shake vigorously and strain into chilled Champagne flute, top with sparkling wine. Garnish with a long thin length of curled lemon peel and serve immediately.

Hartshorn Distillery – Sheep Whey Gin.

Unseen before in the world of gin, this unique spirit from Hartshorn Distillery in Tasmania is made using Sheep Whey, a by-product of their sister business Grandvewe Cheeses. A smooth tipple with an incredibly delicate and subtle aroma of petal and citrus with a hint of freshly cut hay. This gin, excluding juniper, only has native Australian botanicals, two of which have never been used before in gin.

Serving Suggestion

Clap or lightly muddle the lemon verbena leaves in the bottom of a mixing glass. Add the gin, sherry and oleo sacchrum, top the mixing glass with ice and stir. Single-strain into a sparkling wine glass and garnish with lemon verbena.

Nonesuch Distillery – Tasmanian Dry Gin.

The Nonesuch Tasmanian dry gin has a classic mix of traditional botanicals such as liquorice, orris root, angelica, coriander and cardamom. It also uses some interesting botanicals, such as wattle seed and cumquat which blend very well with juniper.

With citrus on the nose, as well as some spice and an earthy savoury note from the wattle seed, this is a delicate gin that requires tender love and care. It’s traditional yet offers some uniquely Australian characteristics.

Serving Suggestion

Start by trying the gin neat, then go easy on the mixer. It’s delicate enough that it can be overpowered if watered down too much and at 40%, doesn’t stand up in heavily flavoured cocktails.

A simple martini as recommended by The Martini Whisperer will work very nicely, feel free to check out his suggestions in his review of Nonesuch dry gin.

The Splendid Gin Co. – The Splendid Gin.

Delicate notes of mandarin, rosemary and bergamot are carefully preserved through vapour infusion and balanced with traditional juniper and coriander botanicals.

Serving Suggestion

Pour it long with a handful of ice over apple, mint, strawberry and lemonade. Better still, bring out your inner ‘sipster’ and drink neat on the rocks.

McHenry Distillery – Classic London Dry Gin.

An elegant smooth gin – like a magic carpet ride of the botanicals. Citrus peel is present and balanced with a small amount of star anise, coriander seeds, cardamon and orris root all beautifully balanced with the juniper. This gin is a very popular product at our sales locations.

Serving Suggestion

Perfect in a G&T with your preferred garnish. Also with a Gin Martini.

Killara Distillery – Apothecary Gin.

Small batch, hand crafted gin that has the same ten botanicals as the original gin but with three times the amount of juniper!! This gives a big juniper kick right up the front that lingers.

Serving Suggestion

Fantastic in cocktails, with your favourite mixer or over ice with a slice of strawberry for those that love extra juniper.

Lawrenny Estate Distilling – Van Diemen’s Gin.

Lawrenny embraces all that is pure about Tasmania. Van Diemen’s Gin is born from the finest base spirit; infused with a blend of traditional and progressive botanicals; and enriched by the pure waters of the River Derwent. Like a visit to Lawrenny Estate, Van Diemen’s Gin is an experience that highlights the natural freshness of this inspiring land. A moment defined by a wonderfully balanced union of bold Juniper, refined herbal notes and fresh citrus pronounced Van Diemen’s Gin.

Serving Suggestion

Mediterranean Tonic Water with a cut Strawberry

Old Kempton Distillery – Embezzler Gin.

This well-balanced gin incorporates a strong juniper character. Blended with citrus, florals, spices, sweetness and ending with a traditional London dry finish that lasts just long enough before the next sip.

Serving Suggestions

Can be enjoyed neat, on ice or chilled, with tonic or our suggestion is chilled with a slice of lime.

The Able Gin – Quintessence Gin.

Dark and brooding, rich and complex this gin has multiple layers to entice even the most jaded palate.

Serving Suggestion

It really is the perfect gin for a martini…dirty it up with a bit of citrus peel or take your negroni to the next level but you may just want to pour it over ice and curl up in front of the fire.

Mc Henrys Distillery – Butterfly Gin.

Handcrafted in Tasmania, McHenry Butterfly Gin features the Butterfly Pea Flower, a natural botanical which results in a spectacular transformation from deep Asiatic blue to an alluring pink with the addition of tonic water.

Serving Suggestion

Serve in a traditional G&T.
